All songs by Timothy Harber 2005. Remixed 2021. This is the 2021 mix of the 2007 classic: The Birth.
‘The Birth’ was inspired by Brian Wilson’s ‘Pet Sounds’ and ‘Smile’ albums. In 2002 I moved to the N.S.W north coast to study Audio Engineering at Byron Bay. One day I found a Beach Boy CD and bought it out of curiosity. It fit the sunny beach vibe I had moved to perfectly. I practiced piano when I could and eventually upgraded my tiny Casio keyboard to a larger 32 key one. The songs were gathered between 2002 and 2006 and were mostly written on piano or keyboard, which was a first for me. I didn’t know much about piano but this album was fun to make.

I remember making up most of the songs on the floor in my flat at Tregeagle N.S.W (at my Aunt Paula & Uncles Paul’s house) with my tiny Casio keyboard. By the time I moved back to Wagga Wagga at my Hodson Avenue house I had most of the songs written. I finished writing the album at Gurwood Street where I had moved with my girlfriend Sarah. I put my keyboard in the tiny fibro room that sat above a shop (a gym if I remember correctly) and looked out the window over the carpark behind our room. I demoed some of the songs here as well. When it came time to record the album we had moved back to the Hodson Avenue house. We built our own Recording Studio in Saxon Street (Breakaway Recording Studios) and a bunch of these songs were recorded there. But it wasn’t until I had moved in with my new girlfriend Allison Connor at Balleroo Street, Glenfield that I finished the album off. I set up my studio in the garage and finished the album off.
Make sure to listen to ‘The Birth’ through headphones at least once!
