Growing up in the 90’s was very different to growing up in the world today.
Listening to recordings of myself singing songs I had written for the first time on a 4 track tape recorder brings back lots of memories. When I was 15 years old, I was in year 8. It was 1996 and I had just been introduced to Nirvana on cassette by some friends and was shown a couple of chords on the guitar. Soon I starting to write my own songs. I recorded them on a one track tape recorder and overdubbed them by adding another tape player. I saved up with a bandmate and went halves on a four track cassette recorder. I was going through some of the cassette tapes from 1997 and decided to remake some of them. ‘Once Upon A Time’ is some of the first songs that I ever recorded. ’Youth’ was the very first song I ever wrote. It uses the first 4 chords I learnt on guitar. I rewrote lyrics and added unfinished sections and re-recorded what I originally only had rough demos for.
